Tax assessor lawsuit begins

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A judge began hearing arguments Wednesday morning in the lawsuit filed by Jefferson County tax assessor Dan Weinrib against the Jefferson County Commission.

Attorneys for Weinrib asked the judge to order the county to return 10 employees to Weinrib's department that were placed on unpaid leave. Weinrib also asked the judge issue a preliminary injunction which would ban the commission from eliminating any of his staff.

Weinrib said he can not do his job as tax collector with only four employees.  The has said he expects to issue a ruling before the end of the day.
