Governor Riley expected to announce Indy racing at Barbers

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Governor Riley is expected at Barber Motorsports Park on Monday for  what his office calls a "major announcement."

It is being said that he will announce that the Motorsports Park will host an Indy racing event in the spring.

City officials believe the race could attract as many as 1-hundred thousand fans and mean millions in tourism dollars.

Drivers filling up near the track Sunday said names like Danica Patrick or Dario Franchitti might be enough to attract interest even from Alabamians who do not normally watch open-wheel racing.
