Birmingham police release details on 37th homicide of 2009

The Birmingham Police Department issued this press release on Friday to detail the latest homicide in the city of Birmingham:

To date, thirty- seven (37) chargeable Homicides have been reported in the City of Birmingham during 2009, compared to forty-three (43) at this time in 2008.

Homicide #37: Occurred on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at approximately 11:03 a.m., in the 4100 block of Traxx Drive, Birmingham, Alabama.

The victim has been identified as:

Rosetia Smith, 23, B/F, of 4409 Campbell Lane, Birmingham, Alabama.

Officers from the South Precinct were dispatched and responded to U.A.B. Hospital on a report of a female shot in the head. Upon arrival, officers were informed by U.A.B. Hospital staff that the victim was deceased. Officers discovered the victim was transported to the hospital by personal vehicle. The victim was shot while her three children were in the vehicle. The children ages range from 7 months to 6 years of age. The children were not injured during the shooting.

There have been no arrests or charges filed in the case.
