Two Brighton police officers injured while apprehending a suspect

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The Jefferson County Sheriff's department is investigating an incident in which two Brighton Police Officers were injured.

Investigators say the officers were stabbed by a suspect while driving him to the police station.

One of the officers was stabbed in the leg and the other was stabbed in the groin area. Both were minor injuries.

The suspect is 30 year old Stevenson Paul Ruffin of Brighton.

He was picked up on two outstanding warrants and wanted for questioning.

Ruffin was also injured while the officers disarmed him. He was taken to the hospital with a head injury.
