Birmingham City Council considering fourth budget proposal

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The Birmingham City Council is considering another budget proposal for 2010. This makes the fourth.

Late this afternoon, councilors discussed placing $26 million in a fund balance until an audit is complete.

Councilors ordered the audit last week to see just how much money the city actually has.

In addition, a proration of all non-personnel spending was up for discussion. With the exception of salaries, the change would mean a 17 percent cut.

Also, there was talk of removing all dome funding except for $8 million, which had already been approved.

Groundbreaking for the domed facility is tomorrow at 5pm in downtown, and

another budget workshop is scheduled this week to discuss possible changes.
