Neighbors in Hoover community spot a wild animal

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A woman who lives in the Heatherwood community in Hoover believes she saw a wolf wandering around the neighborhood.
"When i got to see it up close look eye to eye it was amazing. It was a wild animal no question about it," said Heidi Espey Holladay.
Holladay saw the animal along Cahaba Crest Drive around 5:00 in the afternoon about a week ago.
She and another person followed the animal in their cars for about thirty minutes as it walked through the neighborhood.
Holladay says the animal was very skiddish and it ate things off the side of the road.
The mammal curator at the Birmingham Zoo saw the pictures and says the animal is probably a coyote.
But the State Wildlife Biologist disagrees. He saw the pictures as well.
"I would say this is a domestic animal of some sort, maybe crossed with a wolf maybe not, that has escaped from someone's yard or pen, " said Mark Sasser.  "I don't think this is a wild animal."
Sasser says any type of animal like this can be unpredictable, so if you see it call animal control.
You should not walk up to it or try to corner it.
