Design phase underway for Birmingham's domed stadium

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The design phase is underway for Birmingham's 500 million dollar domed stadium.

A day after the city released funds for the project BJCC officials are already moving "forward"  with it's plans for the multi-purpose facility.

The design phase is slated to last about 18 months, then it would take about 3 months to select a contractor.

Construction could begin in two years and would take three years, making 2014 is the expected date of completion.

Officials are also working on new plans for the Entertainment District, which would be a part of the project.

"We will select a developer we feel can provide the composition of elements needed to make a most successful entertainment district," said Jack Fields, executive director of the BJCC.
