Lawsuit claims $4.7 million illegally diverted from Cooper Green

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -- A lawsuit filed against Jefferson County and its commissioners claims that $4.7 million has been illegally diverted from Cooper Green Hospital.

The lawsuit, filed by plaintiff Marilyn Mosely, seeks the return of the money and wants to take the option of closing down Cooper Green off the table for Jefferson County Commissioners.

Recently, in light of the Jefferson County financial troubles, Cooper Green was asked by Commissioner William Bell to make a contingency plan in case the County needed to close down the hospital. This is after the hospital was also asked to make the 33% cuts that affect all Jefferson County departments.

Commissioner William Bell, who oversees Cooper Green Mercy Hospital, tells FOX6 News there is no plan or intention to close the hospital.
