Concerned residents search for answers about healthcare

Concerned Birmingham residents packed the Alys Stephens Center at UAB hoping to get answers to their concerns about healthcare. The event was hosted by Representative Artur Davis. He says it was a chance for people to get more information about the proposed plans going before lawmakers in Washington this week.

People in attendance heard from a panel of healthcare experts and were able to ask questions. Several people in attendance say their biggest concerns are cost and the quality of health care they will receive.

Rep. Davis says 31 percent of Alabamians went without health insurance at some point in the last year, so this is an issue that affects everyone. In Washington, lawmakers are expected to debate the topic over the next few weeks. President Obama is pressuring congress to send him legislation by October.
