Red Cross responds to apartment fire in Birmingham

The Birmingham Red Cross issued this press release on Friday to detail an apartment fire in Birmingham:

BIRMINGHAM, July 3, 2009 -Members of the ARCHIE Disaster Action Team (DAT) from The Birmingham Area Chapter of the American Red Cross responded to an apartment fire located at 1231 15th Street North in Birmingham. The DAT team was notified of the fire around 4:30am.

Initial reports indicate 13 units were affected and 12 of those were occupied. Red Cross workers will be assisting approximately 19 adults and five children. With this being a holiday weekend, many of the families needed shelter and were provided hotel rooms at a local inn.

The American Red Cross is committed to helping disaster victims with their immediate needs of shelter, food, clothing, mental health counseling and other necessities. Families affected by this apartment fire will be working with Red Cross case workers beginning at 10am at the Birmingham Service Center (2250 9th Ave North, Birmingham).
