Two officers suspended after investigation

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Two Birmingham police officers have been suspended in relation to a police beating that happened back in January 2008.

You may remember that five Birmingham police officers were terminated in May after video of the police beating emerged.

In a press release from the Birmingham Police Department, they said that one sergeant will be suspended for 30 days without pay, and will be reassigned to another unit. A captain, who was a lieutenant at the time of the incident, will receive 15 days suspension without pay.

The department said that more than 50 past and present employees and personnel from outside agencies were interviewed during their investigation.

The FBI and ABI continue their investigations into the incident, and a civil lawsuit was filed as well. Because of this, the Birmingham Police have no plans to make any further statements at this time.
