VESTAVIA HILLS, AL (WBRC) -Anytime there is a fire death, one of the first questions to arise is could it have been prevented? In some instances the answer could be a yes and why it is so important to learn about safety and what to do if a fire breaks out at the home.
“Everybody is subject to a fire in their home,” said Vestavia Hills Fire Department Captain Ryan Farrell. “We train to perform under adverse situations, but seconds mean the difference between life and death in a house fire.”
Last year the city of Vestavia Hills recorded three fire deaths and that number is way higher when you consider the city of Birmingham and its surrounding municipalities. Whatever the number it is too high and Captain Farrell talked with WBRC to give some tips and instructions of what needs to be done to give a person a chance at survival in case of a fire.
