Authorities seeking help to solve Center Point murder case

47-year-old grandmother murdered in Center Point

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) - Jefferson County investigators are seeking the public’s help with a murder that happened two weeks ago in Center Point.

“Straight up murder, basically what it is,” said Sgt. John Pennington with Crime Stoppers.

It happened Sunday, January 27 around 10 p.m. 47-year-old Veronica Gail Foy was returning home to her apartment. Her 21-year-old daughter was in the passenger seat and her one-year-old granddaughter was in the back seat.

A man walked up and opened fire, hitting her inside her car three times.

“Chances are maybe this victim was not the intended person who was shot. Maybe the people or persons responsible anticipated someone else was going to be driving this car,” Pennington said.

Foy’s daughter and granddaughter were not hurt, however Foy died at UAB Hospital.

Pennington said detectives may have a motive and suspects, but they want additional people to come forward.

Pennington said the family is distraught and they want justice for Foy. “This is a situation where someone was conducting their activities, going about their business with family members in the car. Pulls up to her residence and is brutally murdered,” Pennington said.
