5 things to do when cleaning during flu season

How to disinfect your home after flu

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Do you know someone who has had the flu? Maybe someone in your family has had the virus recently.

Health experts say it’s important to disinfect your home, office or school to stop the spread of it.

Here’s what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends:

  • Wash surfaces with a general  household cleaner to remove germs
  • Rinse with water
  • Use an EPA-registered  disinfectant to kill germs
  • Throw away disposable items  used to clean surfaces immediately after use
  • Let the product remain on the  surface for at least three to five minutes to make sure it kills all of  the germs
