HUEYTOWN, AL (WBRC) - Kids from three elementary schools in the Hueytown area, who are dealing with food insecurity, get a bag filled with all sorts of non-perishable items each Friday.
It’s called “Blessings in a Bag,” and it is done through an organization called Hueytown Community Helpers.
About every 5-6 weeks, area churches and community members gather and pack food for just over 100 students.
Since they started the program they’ve given out over 3,200 bags of food.
"We’re so excited that our community has grabbed hold of this. It has been awesome! It is bringing our community together also, not just helping the kids, but all the churches have gotten together which is a huge thing. Sso we’re really excited about that,” said Debbie Kiker, Hueytown Community Helpers.
