Furloughed employees’ kids might qualify for free school lunches

Hoover schools helping furloughed families

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The children of federal furloughed employees might be eligible for free and reduced meals at school while their parents are out of work.

The meals are funded through the USDA’s national school lunch program and school breakfast program.

Hoover City Schools posted a link on their Facebook page this week telling families about the option. However, any student that goes to a participating school would be eligible.

The program is not new and is available to any children who’s family meets the eligibility requirements.
