BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Happy Monday! We are dealing with clouds and chilly temperatures this morning. Many areas have dropped into the upper 30s and lower 40s. Winds are out of the north-northwest at 5-10 mph. We aren't going to see much sunshine today. Clouds will likely remain in place for most of the day. Highs expected to climb into the mid 40s this afternoon with a northwest wind around 8-13 mph. You'll definitely need the jacket today if you plan on spending time outdoors.
First Alert: Temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s for Tuesday morning and lower 30s on Wednesday morning. We will transition to warmer overnight lows by the second half of the work week.
Next Big Thing: Very unsettled weather will return for the second half of the week thanks to a series of disturbances expected to sweep through the Southeast. First system will give us scattered showers on Thursday. Rain chance around 40-50% with highs in the 50s.
Major Cold Front this Weekend: An arctic cold front will sweep through Alabama Saturday evening into Sunday morning. We’ll likely see mostly rain with this system, but temperatures are expected to drop significantly behind the cold front. We could see temperatures drop from the 60s to the 30s in the matter of 6-12 hours. Get ready for the coldest air of the season as we go into next Sunday and Monday. Highs could remain in the 30s with overnight lows dipping into the upper teens Monday!
