BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The steadier rain has tapered off to scattered showers tonight. You can expect the cold and cloudy setup to continue through the overnight and during the day on Sunday. The chance for spotty showers will also linger into the morning and possibly across northern areas during the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will tumble into the upper 30s and low 40s tonight and struggle to reach the 50 degree mark for highs on Sunday.
WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT WEEK: We will start off next week cold and cloudy, with highs in the 40s and lows in the 30s. The clouds should finally break on Tuesday, giving way to afternoon sunshine. Wednesday will also be a much brighter day, with highs in the mid-50s.
I do want to first alert on changes Thursday, as moisture will be back on the return. You can expect increasing clouds, with showers possible by Thursday evening. Rain will become increasingly likely on Friday and then again on Saturday as another cold front impacts the state. As far as timing, I cannot rule out on and off showers during the day on Friday. The system on Saturday has the potential to bring heavy rain. So we will need to keep a closer eye on this setup for a possible flood threat late in the week. Long range data is also hinting at another rainmaker beyond the weekend around the January 22-23 time frame. Bottom line: We will have lots to keep our eye on over the coming days.
