BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A lot of people are working really hard at the gym right now as part of a plan to get fit in 2019. but doctors say exercise won’t be enough to help you lose weight.
While exercising is great and a very Important part of dieting, doctors say it’s not going to make you lose a ton of weight if you’re not eating right as well.
In fact, exercising will only burn about 10% to 30% of the calories you consume.
Mirian Pittman is a nutrition specialist for Shelby Baptist Health and she says if you really want to lose weight, you have to change the way you eat.
“We suggest that you take in 500 calories or less than you expend so if you track what you are eating now and you see - for average, let’s just say you are eating 1,800 calories a day. Then to lose weight, you want to take in no more than 1,300 calories a day,” Pittman explains.
Nutritionists say a lot of people actually end up eating more if they're working out a lot because they're burning off more energy so sometimes they end up gaining weight.
Doctors remind you the best recipe for a healthy lifestyle is eat right and exercise.
