BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - History was made tonight for the UAB football program.

The Blazers earning their first ever bowl victory.

Fans celebrate UAB victory

A watch party was held at Iron City for fans who couldn’t make to the game in Boca Raton. It was an electric atmosphere all night as hundreds of people were cheering on their Blazers.

This is back to back bowl appearances for the Blazers. Fans believe the sky is the limit for this team.

“I really think the future is looking bright for UAB especially with the revitalization of Birmingham... We’re beginning to get more recognition. Our sports programs are increasing. Our facilities on campus and schools are only getting better and better. I think the future is very bright for the school,” Eli Foree, a UAB fan said.

Mayor Randall Woodfin says having this type of positive national attention on the team definitely helps the city in more ways than one.

The Blazers have capped off their magical season with their first ever bowl game victory, and they did it in dominating fashion.

The Blazers jumped out to an early lead over NIU scoring their first touchdown on a 70 yard pass on the first scrimmage of the game.

Tyler Johnston III had an impressive game going 17/29 for 373 yards and four touchdowns. Wide receiver Xavier Ubosi has accounted for the majority of receiving yards with 227 yards.
