Jacksonville City Council votes to apply for Chief Ladiga Trail grant

Chief Ladiga Trail expanding in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, AL (WBRC) - Jacksonville’s City Council has voted on an effort to extend the Chief Ladiga Trail in two different spots.

The cycling and walking trail were built on an old railroad bed, and is now credited for bringing more eco-tourists into Calhoun County.

The Jacksonville City Council Monday night voted to apply for a federal grant that would pay 80 percent of the cost of that project. That's $273,00.

The city would pay the rest.

One of those prongs from the trail would extend from Kitty Stone Elementary School to Second Avenue, while the other would extend north.
