BOCA RATON, FL (WBRC) - UAB’s 2018 football season has been nothing short of historic. But there’s one more piece of major history the Blazers can make before calling it a year.

When Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Bill Clark and UAB takes the field Tuesday against Northern Illinois in the Boca Raton Bowl, the opportunity to pick up the Blazers' first bowl win in program history will be on everyone’s mind.

UAB hasn’t had many chances to pick up a bowl win. This is only UAB’s third bowl appearance. In 2004, Watson Brown’s team traveled to the Hawaii Bowl and lost to Hawaii 59-40. Then, last year Clark’s bunch fell 41-6 to Ohio in the Bahamas Bowl.

The program’s first bowl win would be a fitting ending to a season that has included so many first and broken records. UAB marched to its first C-USA championship by winning a program-record 10 games and extending its home winning streak to 12. And all this comes a year after the football program returned from a two-year absence.

The story of UAB’s return continues to build its legendary tale. A win against MAC champion Northern Illinois could be the next chapter of what has been an amazing feat.
