Lip sync video leads to new police equipment for Hollywood Police Department

HOLLYWOOD, AL (WAFF) - A police chief in Jackson County is getting new equipment after winning a nationwide lip-syncing contest. But winning the lip sync contest is not what got them the equipment.

Hollywood Police Chief Jason Hepler says a not-for-profit company saw his video and was so impressed they have outfitted his entire department.

Hepler says even he was surprised when he got all this equipment for his entire department of four officers.

Each officer is getting a rifle resistant vest, ballistic helmet, ammo case, and a trauma first aid kit.

Hepler says Christian based company Shield 616 saw his Christian-based video and reached out through social media to see whether they could help.

The chief says the company donates to departments across the country.

Hepler says the donation will help the department in the field with equipment that's hard to come by.

“I mean it’s huge because we are a small agency and our budget is always limited. We wouldn’t just be able to go out and purchase this gear so it’s a great blessing for us,” said Hepler.

Hepler estimates the value of the new equipment around six thousand dollars.
