Extra security planned for busy shopping weekend in Hoover

Keeping Christmas shoppers safe in Hoover

HOOVER, AL (WBRC) - With Christmas less than two weeks away, this weekend is critical for Christmas shoppers in Hoover.

Despite the ongoing threat Hoover city leaders say shoppers will be safe.

“For many years Hoover has been the shopping Mecca of Central Alabama and we still are," said Hoover City Manager Allan Rice.

Rice has been keeping a close eye on all of the protests in the area. He says shoppers will be safe with the Hoover Police Department’s Security Plan.

“We have our normal police presence. They are not only inside the facilities but outside in the parking lots, working traffic lights to make your trip a little bit easier. Come back and shop in Hoover just like you always have,” Rice said.

Some shoppers have encountered protesters at some retail outlets. Rice says the police department is advising you to be calm.

“If they find themselves in an event they should continue on. They are going to to be kept safe by the Hoover Police Department. Certainly we don’t want them to engage anyone who might be involved in a protest or demonstration,” Rice said.
