VESTAVIA HILLS, AL (WBRC) - A Vestavia Hills police officer is on administrative leave without pay after being charged with first-degree theft of property and a violation of the state of Alabama ethics code.

The charges against Timothy Burns stem from a recent isolated internal investigation, according to post from the Vestavia Hills Police Department Facebook page.

Burns has been relieved of his duties at the police department.

“The Vestavia Hills Police Department does not take for granted the faith, trust, and confidence placed in us by the community we serve. We pledge to do all we can to maintain that trust moving forward”, Chief Dan Rary said.
