TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) - A 48-year-old man is under arrest after Tuscaloosa police say he shot into a vehicle with two people inside and then assaulted another person.

Police and the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit were called to the 2200 block of 2nd Street East around 5:40 Tuesday evening on a shooting.

Investigators say Marcus Jones shot into a vehicle occupied by two people then assaulted another person. Neither person in the vehicle was injured in the shooting.

The victims said they were at a home down from an abandoned home where Jones was hanging out. Jones started yelling and harassing them.

As two of the people left in a vehicle from the home police say Jones pulled out a gun and started shooting at them as they drove past him.

Immediately afterwards, a 39-year-old man reported Jones came into his front yard and began hitting him in the head with the gun. The victim was taken to DCH and treated for his injuries which were non-life threatening.

The shooting and assault was a result of an ongoing dispute between Jones and the 39-year-old assault victim. The reason for the dispute is unknown at this time.

Jones turned himself into officers and refused to provide a statement. Investigators processed the scene and collected thirteen .45 caliber shell casings.

The vehicle Jones reportedly shot was hit multiple times on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Investigators found probable cause to arrest Jones for two counts of attempted murder, one count of second-degree assault, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and certain persons forbidden to possess a pistol.

Jones is in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $180,000 bond.
