BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Several lanes on McFarland Boulevard - U.S. Highway 82 - will close over the next few days for a major road improvement project in Tuscaloosa.
“The two inside westbound lanes will be closed, but you’re still able to make that left turn on the westbound I-20/59 ramp,” John McWilliams, a spokesman for the Alabama Department of Transportation, said.
Several drivers say that’s fine with them as long as it solves traffic flow problems. “It’s needed. This city has become much larger, being that it’s a Roll Tide city, traffic is humongous,” Eunice Vinson agreed.
Those west bound lanes will be partially closed Wednesday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. so workers can finish work on girders underneath the bridge.
On Thursday, the westbound outside lane will close but leave room so drivers access the through lane. “It jams up every day. But it’s OK, it’s making our city better,” Kelly Misko added.
The temporary lane closures should end at 5 a.m. Friday morning.
