GADSDEN, AL (WBRC) - The Sears located in the Gadsden Mall is on the retailer’s newest closing list. The location is one of 142 locations to be closed as part of the retailer’s bankruptcy filing Monday.

It leaves the Hoover location as the last major Sears store in Alabama.

Sears was one of the first anchor stores when the Gadsden Mall opened in 1974.

It comes as the mall is still trying to fill the vacant space left by the departure of another struggling retail store, J.C. Penney.
