TALLADEGA, AL (WBRC) - On a beautiful Talladega Sunday afternoon, no one could have predicted an overtime victory nor one of the cleanest races in 'Dega history.
Eight cautions highlighted the day as the big one never came. Aric Almirola cruised to victory lane after his Stewart-Haas teammate Kurt Busch ran out of gas on the last lap.
Regardless, it’s all about the cup standings.
“This is sweet, winning here today was really special,” Almirola said.
Almirola advances to the Round of 8 in the playoffs. Brad Keselowski, Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson, Alex Bowman are all on the bubble as the head to Kansas next week.
The team to beat, though, is Stewart-Haas Racing.
“We’re good points wise to the next round, and just race, that’s great for the team mentally,” Harvick said.
