GARDENDALE, AL (WBRC) -The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says a 16-year-old male and a 16-year-old female got into an altercation that ended with the female being stabbed in the leg with a small pocket knife.

Just after 2:00 pm Wednesday the School Resource Officer at Gardendale High School was notified by the principal about the altercation.

Deputies learned that a male and a female student had been arguing. The male student stabbed the female in the leg with a small pocket knife, according to authorities. He then ran from the scene.

The School Resource Officer contacted the suspect’s mother and she brought him back to school. He was questioned by deputies and released to his mother pending juvenile court proceedings for second-degree assault.
