Local hospitals prepare for transfer patients from areas impacted by Hurricane Michael

Shelby Baptist prepared to help post-Michael

ALABASTER, AL (WBRC) - Hospitals in our area are on standby to receive patients from the Florida Panhandle affected by Hurricane Michael.

Hospitals like Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster started preparing Tuesday to take more patients if needed.

Shelby Baptist is currently using a database to constantly update how many beds it has available. This will allow patients in the affected areas that need to be transferred to see which hospitals have available rooms.

Matthew Moton, Director of Facilities for Shelby Baptist Medical Center, says all hospitals involved have one common goal.

“We want to make sure that they are in a care setting that is appropriate and unfortunately with an event like this you may experience power outages and supply constraints that may make it difficult to accomplish that mission,” he said.

Shelby Baptist Medical Center says it is prepared and happy to take on any extra patients and will keep then here as long as needed until it is safe for them to go home.
