Clothing drive for homeless veterans in west Alabama

Veterans clothing drive

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The volunteers who collected hundreds of pieces of clothes for homeless veterans held a party Thursday morning to sort them by and size and for men and women.

Members of VFW Post 6022 and Moose Lodge #804 hosted the event. The clothing will be given to homeless veterans staying at a shelter at Tuscaloosa’s V-A Medical Center.

People started collecting clothes over the summer. Most of them were donated during the Moose Lodge’s statewide convention several months ago.

They first thought they’d only need one truck to bring the clothes back to west Alabama, but they were surprised by people’s generosity.

“You see what’s going on today. Just a lot of folks with kindness in their heart helping everybody. It’s just a good thing,” Marlin Boblitt explained.

Those clothes will be taken to the VA medical center Friday at 2 p.m.
