Jefferson County, AL (WBRC) - The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says the 23-year-old father of a baby who died after being found unresponsive in a bathtub has been charged with reckless manslaughter.

The father has been identified as Cordarius Cotton.

The five-month old boy was found at a home in the 100 block of Hickory Grove near Tarrant Sunday.

Chief Deputy Randy Christian says paramedics transported the baby to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

During questioning, Christian says the dad told detectives he turned the shower on and put the child in the tub. He left the room to go play a video game and forgot about the baby. When he returned to the bathtub about an hour later he found the child unresponsive.

“I can’t imagine how hard this is going to be on that child’s family. This will be heart wrenching for all involved. God be with them,” Christian said in a release.

Cotton is in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $15,000.
