BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A family is upset someone stole flowers from the grave site of a loved one who was murdered two years ago.
There is a picture on social media of the grave site of Lyle Guthrie as it looked on September 20, the two year anniversary of his murder.
All the flowers were taken from the grave site. Flowers were quickly replaced.
Guthrie’s mother, Denise Blackwell Smith, in a social media post said she and Guthrie’s widow hoped someone would help find the thieves.
“Beth and I were hoping that by making the post that people would read it and hopefully we could find out who committed the crime,” Smith said.
Monday those flowers were still in place. Smith said the matter has been heart wrenching as the family awaits the capital murder trial of two men accused of the murder.
They are Easton Gant of Coaling and Jakob Aaron Harris of Vance.
Smith said in her post, “I did walk around each grave and around the the cemetery including the area next to the highway and the woods surrounding the cemetery and nothing was found. Lyle’s grave was the only grave disturbed.”
Smith says last year it look liked someone vandalized the grave site with spraying dirt on the tomb marker. The Walker County Sheriff’s office is investigating the case. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office.
