Memorial for unsolved homicide victim

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - A mourning family in Jefferson County continues to beg for answers six years after their relative was found dead.

Family members released balloons in honor of 22-year-old Antanisha Dawson on Saturday evening.

Dawson was found dumped on the side of the road in the North Smithfield Community in September 2012.

With no new leads in her homicide, Dawson’s family gathers every year to celebrate the life she lived.

Her father, Michael Owens, said the main reason they celebrate her life is for her son.

“I don’t want him to grow up being bitter in a sense, but to always think of his mom as a beautiful person,” said Owens. “And use that as motivation for the rest of his life.”

Officials believed Antanisha was likely killed in another location before her body was dumped on Pope Lane.
