BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The Magic City’s new football team finally has a name: The Birmingham Iron.
The Alliance of American Football unveiled the team’s name, along with the three other eastern division squads.
The name pays tribute to the “hard working steel workers who provided the Iron that fueled the industrial revolution,” according to a press release from the Alliance. “The people of Birmingham are tough, hard working, passionate, strong and dependable, attributes that will quickly become synonymous with the Birmingham Iron.”
The team’s colors will be steel gray, black and brushed silver.

- Memphis Express
- Orlando Apollos
- Atlanta Legends
The Alliance was founded by producer Charlie Ebersol and Hall of Famer Bill Polian. The regular season is scheduled to begin on February 9, 2019.
Birmingham Iron’s head coach is Tim Lewis. The team will play at Legion Field.
