The economy is doing well, so more people are working and that makes it harder for retailers to find those holiday workers.
”The biggest obstacle they are facing today is just finding people who will work at all. Part-time jobs or full-time jobs during he holiday season," said Robert RoRovRobicheaux, retired University of Alabama Business professor.
Rob Robicheaux said some of these temporary jobs can become permanent.
“Assistant manager and store manager positions for many of the retail companies are quite rewarding financially.” Robicheaux said.
Some of those retailers looking at hiring more people over the holidays this year are:
- JC Penny
Being so competitive means retailers are having to step up their incentives to lure job seekers.
“We recently raised the minimum wage to $12 an hour. We are really looking to hire some experienced candidates,” Dumas said.
