Man arrested after dragging officer, car passenger

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) - A man is in custody facing several charges after police say him dragging an officer and a passenger with his car prompted an officer-involved shooting.

Demetrius Denzel Horton, 28, is being charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of second-degree assault, one count of third-degree and leaving the scene of an accident.

He will be booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail pending $156,000 in total bonds. He turned himself in after a Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy was able to make contact with him.

Investigators confirm officers were checking on a parked car that was at the park after hours.

As they were talking to the driver, police say he drove off dragging an officer and the passenger who were outside 20 yards. Police say that Horton also hit the backup officer while fleeing.

Another officer police say shot at the vehicle. They don’t know if the suspect was hit.

One of the officers and the passenger were taken to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment. Both have been released.
