Suspect charged with murder of Woodlawn High football player

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The Birmingham Police Department says a capital murder warrant has been obtained against a 17-year-old they say murdered a Woodlawn High School football player early Saturday morning, September 1.

17-year-old Rodrick Hodges has been charged with the murder of 16-year-old William Edwards.

The shooting happened in the 300 block of 80th St N early morning Saturday, September 1.

Police responded to the scene where they found Edwards suffering gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hodges was in custody at the Jefferson County Jail as of the timestamp on this story.
